Center for Gun Violence Research and Education

Working towards evidence-based, community-led solutions to end the gun violence epidemic.
Gun violence is a critical public health issue.
Gun violence is a leading cause of premature death in the U.S., claiming more than 45,000 lives each year, and is the leading cause of death among children and teens, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
While the U.S. as a whole continues to experience sharp increases in gun violence year after year, the traumatic effects of gun violence disproportionately impact communities of color. The Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education is focused on building a public health response to this epidemic, grounded in racial equity.
Together, in collaboration with the Health Alliance for Violence Intervention (HAVI), the Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education is building on Kaiser Permanente’s pioneering gun violence prevention efforts.

The Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education is working across four strategic pillars.
Research
Funding and uplifting equity-centered researchers and their work on effective interventions and the long-term psychological consequences of gun violence incidents.
Education
Sharing knowledge to bring a deeper understanding of gun violence causes, impacts, and solutions to advocates in health care, business, policy-making, community organizations and beyond.
Community Partnership
Supporting and collaborating with community-based organizations, care providers, and businesses working to address the gun violence epidemic.
Health Care System Implementation
Supporting the implementation of innovative clinical interventions in health care systems that address the root causes of community violence and suicide by guns.
